Dr. Altaf Usmani

Dr. Altaf Usmani is working as lead expert in the field of design of underground structures for storage of crude oil, LPG and other products at Engineers India Limited, New Delhi. Dr. Altaf Usmani is working on a collaborative project (industry partner) titled “Stress history and reservoir pressure (SHARP) for improved quantification of CO2 storage containment risks” along with IIT Bombay and other European partners (Norway, UK, Denmark & Netherlands). Dr. Usmani is also actively involved in research aimed at finding underground options for storage of CO2 in deep sea basins.

Dr. Altaf Usmani has authored vast number of papers in international/national journals covering various challenges in the field of engineering and design of underground structures for oil and gas storages and has also authored a book on Underground Storage Technologies. Dr. Altaf Usmani is appointed member of TC 204 of ISSMGE (International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering) on “Underground Construction in Soft Ground”, Member “International Society of Rock Mechanics (ISRM)” and Member “Indian Geotechnical Society”. Dr. Usmani is key member of “Bureau of Indian Standards” Code Committee CED 48 on “Rock Mechanics”.
