Dr. Ehab F. El-Saadany is an IEEE Fellow for his contributions in distributed generation planning, operation and control. He was born in Cairo, Egypt, in 1964. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt, in 1986 and 1990, respectively, and his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, ON, Canada, in 1998, where he was a Professor with the ECE Department till 2019, where he was the Director of the Power MEng program between 2010 and 2015. Currently, he is a Professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and the Director of the Advanced Power and Energy Research Center (APEC) at Khalifa University, UAE. Dr. El-Saadany is an Internationally recognized expert in the area of sustainable energy integration and smart distribution systems. His research interests include smart grid operation and control, microgrids, self-healing, cyber-physical security of smart grids, protection, power quality, embedded generation and transportation electrification. He is Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario. Dr. El-Sadaany has graduated 32 Ph.D. and 22 M.Sc. students and published 450+ international journal and conference papers in addition to 3 US patents. Dr. El-Saadany is a two-time recipient of Canada Research Chair Award in Energy Systems (2009-2014) and Smart Distribution Systems (2014-2018). Recipient of the Mission Innovation Champion award in 2020 and is the recipient of the prestigious Khalifa Award in 2021. Further, he is the recipient of the 2023 Mohamed Bin Rashid Medal for Scientific Excellence.
