He started his professional career in 1979 dealing with auditing. In 1980 he joined Ernst & Young and during his internal career he deals with the auditing of important national (Saipem, Pirelli) and international groups as well as the technical aspects of auditing and accounting, participating in the development of auditing standards and supporting the National Council of Certified Public Accountants in the drafting of the first formulation of the National Accounting Principles. He was appointed Partner in 1994 and took the responsibility for the office located in Brescia while continuing to maintain responsibility for important forensic engagements of the Milan central office. In 1996 he joined the Saipem Group (ENI group) as Chief Financial Officer and, since 2002, the has been also appointed Head of the Corporate Secretary and Corporate Governance. During his tenureat Saipem he actively participated in 2000 in the acquisition of the group listed on the Paris and New York stock exchanges Bouygues Offshore and of the Snamprogetti group in 2006. In 2008 he was called to assume the role of Chief Financial Officer of the ENI Group, which he held until December 2012. During his mandate at Eni, he coordinated the activities aimed to the sale of participation in Snam group to Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, the acquisitions of international companies operating in the Oil & Gas sector and the sale of the investment held by Eni in the Portuguese national energy company Galp. He represented Eni in Snam Board of Directors, Chairman of Eni Insurance and member of OIL Board of Directors, this last an insurance company established among the international oil companies. In 2013 he joined Maire Tecnimont Group as Group Chief Financial Officer, also covering the position of Director in several Group Companies. Since May 2022 he has been holding the position of Chief Executive Officer of Maire Tecnimont SpA, as well as of the subsidiaries Tecnimont S.p.A., KT Kinetics Technologies S.p.A. and NextChem S.p.A. He is registered in the National Register of Auditors since April 1995 and qualified to the profession of Certified Accountant since 1994. He attended as visiting Professor in the Accounting Master at the University of Pavia from 1998 to 2000 and in 2008.

In addition to rationalising refining capacity in certain regions, companies are also exploring diversification into low-carbon solutions such as biofuels, renewables, hydrogen, ammonia and investing further into chemicals.

Oil and gas operations account for 15% of total energy-related Scope 1 and 2 emissions globally. To meet the IEA’s Net Zero Emissions by 2050 scenario, Scope 1 and 2 emissions must be reduced by 50% by 2030. Producers have the means to achieve this target, including reducing methane emissions, the elimination of non-emergency flaring, the clean electrification of upstream facilities and equipping oil and gas processes with CCUS technologies. However, an estimated US $600 billion in investment will be needed to deliver the 50% reduction in the timeframe required. In addition, collaboration between sectors will be critical when optimising supply chain operations, allowing for greater efficiencies and increased profitability.
