Trading the LNG wave: navigating oversupply, new buyers and volatile markets

A significant wave of new supply is expected to reshape trade flows, market dynamics and opportunities across the value chain over the coming years. Yet, this period of growth also highlights the importance of resilience, flexibility and collaboration in navigating an increasingly interconnected global market. As producers, buyers and investors adapt to evolving supply patterns, the ability to manage uncertainty, strengthen infrastructure and build flexible commercial frameworks will be critical to ensuring LNG continues to support energy security and economic growth. Traders, buyers and project developers must now navigate rapid supply expansion, unpredictable geopolitical shocks and growing demand for reliable gas. Trading and procurement models are evolving through greater contractual flexibility, portfolio optimisation, new financial instruments and AI-driven market intelligence, while new infrastructure creates additional routes to global markets. As the supply wave builds, value will be determined by which portfolios can balance flexibility, security and exposure to an increasingly volatile global LNG market.
