Minister of Energy and Water
Mali
Professor Tiémoko Traoré, born in Bamako on October 14, 1980, is a seasoned Malian academic and anthropologist who was appointed Minister of Energy and Water on February 12, 2026.
He began his higher education at the University of Bamako, earning a Master’s degree in Anthropology in 2003, before moving to the University of Tours in France, where he completed a Master’s degree in the Socio-Anthropology of Rural Development and later a Doctorate in Anthropology between 2012 and 2016.
With over fifteen years of experience in sustainable development, Professor Traoré has built a distinguished professional career spanning both corporate and humanitarian sectors.
His previous roles include serving as a social development expert at the Goukoto-Loulo mine, pedagogical director at the African Institute of Management in Bamako, and consultant for organizations like World Vision and the agricultural project PDAZAM.
He is highly specialized in environmental protection, project impact assessments, corporate social responsibility, and World Bank environmental frameworks. In his ministerial role, he is now tasked with managing Mali's strategic energy and water sectors, with a particular focus on balancing urgent environmental demands with human and community needs.
