Energy diversification as strategic defence: how oil shocks are accelerating the clean energy build-out

Two major shocks in five years have shown that diversification is a security imperative, not just climate policy. Countries that invested in multiple generation sources, strategic reserves and domestic capacity are absorbing the disruption measurably better than those that did not. Clean energy investment reached USD 2.3 trillion in 2025, but this is addition, not replacement. Global demand continues to grow, fossil fuels still supply more than 80% of the world's energy, and no single source can carry the load alone. The goal is not to swap one dependency for another but to broaden the supply base across fuels, molecules and electrons, accepting managed interdependence, not self-sufficiency, as the realistic path.

Attendee Insights:
Assess where diversification into clean electrons, nuclear and storage creates genuine security, and where it introduces new vulnerabilities.
