Dr. Rainer Seele is President of XRG’s Global Chemicals platform, where he brings more than three decades of leadership experience in the global energy and chemicals sectors. Dr. Seele has held senior roles across Europe and the Middle East, spanning strategic transformation, international M&A, and downstream integration. Prior to joining XRG, Dr. Seele served as Chief Executive Officer of OMV, Austria’s leading integrated energy company, where he led a major portfolio shift towards petrochemicals, Middle East expansion and the acquisition of Borealis. He previously held senior leadership roles at Wintershall Holding and BASF, including CEO of Wintershall AG, Germany’s largest oil and gas company, and CEO of WINGAS, Wintershall’s gas trading and infrastructure investments business. Dr. Seele serves as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Covestro AG since December 2025 and currently sits on the boards of Borouge International, Fertiglobe and Bapco Upstream. He is a former advisor to the UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and ADNOC Group CEO. He holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Göttingen, Germany.
