Dr. Heba Salem is a Senior Future Studies Specialist at a Dubai government regulatory entity, where her work sits at the intersection of emerging technology, research strategy, cybersecurity, and technology governance. She has led and contributed to research and development initiatives and institutional collaborations spanning IoT, wireless communications, hardware systems, and other emerging technologies. She has also led the development of several Dubai cybersecurity standards, including standards for IoT, biomedical devices, and connected vehicles, translating technical research and evolving technology risks into practical regulatory and policy frameworks. Dr. Salem holds a PhD in Informatics from the University of Edinburgh, where her research focused on hardware security and trust and the use of machine learning to detect anomalous behaviour in computing systems. Her broader interests include AI, sensing and embedded systems, hardware security, and technology foresight, with a particular focus on how emerging technologies can be developed and deployed in ways that are trustworthy, responsible, sustainable, and responsive to wider societal and environmental challenges.
