Dr. Dimitrios Dimitriou is Senior Vice President of ESG & Sustainability at EMSTEEL Group, the UAE's largest steel and building materials manufacturer, where he leads the company's energy transition. He has more than 20 years of experience in decarbonisation, strategy, and engineering across the industrial and energy sectors, with particular depth in hydrogen, green steel, fertilizers, and petrochemicals.

At EMSTEEL he was appointed the Group's first head of ESG and later promoted to SVP. In that role he delivered the MENA region's first green hydrogen-to-steel pilot, secured an MSCI AA rating, launched the Group's inaugural Green Finance Framework, and is now developing the UAE's first commercial-scale green steel plant. He previously served as Advisor to the Group CEO, and in that capacity co-chaired the IRENA Alliance for Industrial Decarbonization from COP28 onwards. Before joining EMSTEEL, he spent four years at ADNOC. There he led negotiations on a world-scale blue hydrogen project in the UK and on first-of-their-kind blue ammonia shipments to Germany and Japan, and he helped form and integrate a fertilizers joint venture. Earlier in his career he was a Managing Consultant at Nexant ECA, advising on multi-billion-dollar investments worldwide, and a Senior Engineer at Johnson Matthey.

Dimitrios sits on the Board of Directors of ResponsibleSteel and is an Adjunct Professor at Khalifa University. He is a frequent speaker at COP, ADIPEC, Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, and New York Climate Week, and he has published more than 20 research papers. In 2025 Khaleej Times named him one of the UAE's most influential sustainability leaders. He holds a PhD and an MSc in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College London, a BEng from City University London, and an MBA from Alliance Manchester Business School.
