Ahmed El-Hoshy has served as Chief Executive Officer of Fertiglobe PLC since 2021 and joined the company’s Board of Directors in July 2026. Under his leadership, Fertiglobe has strengthened its position as world’s largest seaborn exporter of urea and ammonia, combined. Ahmed successfully led the company's initial public offering on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) and has overseen its strategic development, including its integration with ADNOC and XRG.

Ahmed was formerly based in London as the CEO of OCI Global, one of the world’s largest ammonia and methanol producers at the time, with a capacity of 17 million tons per annum of hydrogen-based products, manufactured across four continents. He played an integral role in the successful divestment of four businesses of OCI Global in 2023 and 2024, generating $11.6 billion of proceeds, unlocking significant value for shareholders.

Ahmed also held senior executive positions over thirteen years at OCI Global, including Global Chief Operating Officer, CEO of OCI Americas and CEO of OCI Partners. Previously, he was based in New York and led the growth of OCI’s US and European businesses in both the ammonia and methanol sectors, including the establishment of over 6 million tons of production in Iowa and Texas.

El-Hoshy received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Harvard College with honours and began his career at Goldman Sachs as a member of the investment banking and special situations groups in New York and Dubai.

Hydrogen's next chapter: from FID to first molecules

Hydrogen has moved from announcements into execution. Landmark projects across the Gulf, Europe and beyond are approaching production, about to give the industry the most data it has ever had at scale: real costs, construction timelines, offtake performance and the operational realities of producing at volume. Which use cases work is becoming clearer. Ammonia for fertiliser and shipping, hydrogen for refining, and industrial feedstock applications with no viable alternative are all progressing, while broader applications remain further from commercial reality. The next 18 months will be decisive as the first large-scale projects come on stream. The industry will then learn whether project economics hold, or whether the optimism underpinning commitments survives contact with operational reality.
