John H. Platt II is the General Manager of Bechtel Energy’s New Energies, Chemicals and Fuels business line based in Houston. The New Energies, Chemicals & Fuels business line leverages Bechtel's core EPC competencies in olefins, refining, chemicals, and pipeline as well as support to emerging projects in hydrogen and it's derivatives, sustainable aviation fuel, and other optimization and decarbonization programs. With over 25 years of experience at Bechtel, John has held various leadership positions in engineering, construction, and project management, specializing in the energy, petrochemicals, nuclear, security, and environment sectors. Before assuming his current role, John led Bechtel’s delivery of the Uranium Processing Facility as the Project Director for Consolidated Nuclear Security. Under his leadership, the team achieved several critical milestones on this first-of-a-kind project that is replacing World War II-era production facilities to ensure the long-term safety and security of enriched uranium capabilities in the United States. Previously, John served as Senior Project Manager for Bechtel's Pennsylvania Chemicals project, one of the largest construction projects in the U.S., where he managed the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of an ethylene plant, polyethylene plants, combined cycle power plants, a water treatment plant, rail infrastructure, and other associated facilities. Earlier in his career, John held project management roles on oil, gas, and chemical projects in Baytown, Texas, and Saudi Arabia. In these positions, he introduced innovative solutions that enhanced environmental safety and productivity. From 2001 to 2011, he contributed to Bechtel’s Waste Treatment & Immobilization Plant Project at the Department of Energy’s Hanford Site in Washington state. John holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Clarkson University. He is a Registered Professional Engineer, a Senior Member of IEEE, and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). He was elected a Bechtel principal vice president in 2019 and a senior vice president in 2022.
