Every year world leaders convene at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP) to review the progress the world has made in reaching the Paris Agreement’s climate goals. The next two conferences, COP27 (Egypt) and COP28 (UAE), will be especially significant as they mark the return of COP to the Middle East, and will play a vital role in shaping the direction of the global energy transition.

Over the past year, there has been an unprecedented level of attention paid to the global energy sector. Calls for the world to meet its climate change targets are increasing, and the sector is facing heightened scrutiny on the use of oil and gas. Meanwhile, many communities still struggle to access the energy they need to meet demand. At such a crucial time for the industry, the global energy sector needs credible players to engage in productive dialogue to create a pragmatic and progressive energy transition.

ADIPEC 2022 | Road to COP27 and COP28

As one of the leading energy-producing regions in the world, the Middle East is the perfect location for the next two UN Climate conferences. This year, Gulf suppliers have been playing a critical role in the global energy ecosystem, acting as a gateway to Europe for both Asia and Africa. With the US Energy Information Administration stating that Asia’s energy demand is expected to increase by 47% over the next 30 years, the Gulf’s role as a bridge between continents will be hugely important.

The region is playing an essential role in shaping global climate action, with the UAE emerging as a key to that by launching the Hydrogen Leadership Roadmap, signing the Global Methane Pledge, and announcing a $1 billion Energy Transition Accelerator Financial Platform. Having invested more than $40 billion in clean energy projects, the UAE is the ideal host for COP28 in 2023, allowing it to showcase the significant progress in climate action being made across the Gulf region.

On the road to COP27 and COP28, ADIPEC 2022 - the world’s most influential gathering for industry professionals - will play a major role in accelerating the climate commitments of the industry.

Hosted in Abu Dhabi, ADIPEC will bring together top-level innovators, policymakers, and industry leaders and provide a platform for them to collaborate and discuss how best to tackle one the biggest challenges the industry faces. As well as demonstrating the central role played by the oil and gas sector through innovations such as the scaling up of low carbon technologies, it will also lay the groundwork for COP27 and COP28, and start the dialogue that will carry on through both UN conferences.

With the return of COP to the Middle East, ADIPEC 2022 will be at the heart of the global energy conversation and help shape the future of the industry.

Don’t miss out on #ADIPEC 2022, happening between 30th October – 3rd November in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
