Bettina Knudsen is the COO, Commercial Director and co-owner of emissions monitoring expert Explicit ApS. The company applies innovations in sensors coupled with drones to detect and measure climate gases and air pollutants over land and sea. It is also the only ISO 17025 accredited provider of drone services to quantify methane. Together with the Explicit Emissions Lab team, Bettina is working to advance new methodologies for measuring methane and other potent climate gases and advancing data structures for reporting.

Before venturing into greentech, Bettina had a background in asset management having held several senior management positions within the investment industry. Her focus is on business development and strategy. She holds a Masters in Communications with a minor in Business Studies from Roskilde University, Denmark.

Unlocking the potential of methane measurement and tracking technologies

Methane emissions tracking is evolving rapidly. Satellites with sensors and drones gathering data now enable continuous monitoring, top-down and bottom-up reconciliation methods are improving, and yet global standards remain fragmented. No single calculation model or data collection procedure exists across sectors and emissions boundaries lack consistent definition. To reach net-zero, technological breakthroughs, innovative approaches, and cohesive regulations are needed. These will enhance quantification and mitigation efforts that can then effectively combat this potent greenhouse gas and its climate impact.

Attendee insights:

This session will explore the potential of technologies that can help track methane emissions across sectors and the need for standardised methane emissions accounting frameworks.
