Executive Vice President, Low Carbon Solutions
Shell
In leading Shell Low Carbon Solutions, Anna builds on her expertise in the energy sector, bringing customers with the greatest decarbonisation challenges together with solutions and products that can help reduce and manage the carbon emissions of the energy they use. By combining Shell's extensive sectoral experience and solutions expertise, her team designs, delivers, and scales impactful decarbonisation pathways for customers in hard-to-abate transport and industry sectors, as well as Shell’s own operations. In doing so, Anna helps Shell pursue its Powering Progress strategy, providing the secure energy customers need today while tackling the financial and technical challenges involved in decarbonisation, so as to deliver more value with less emissions. A physicist by background, Anna began her Shell career in 2004 as part of Shell’s Integrated Gas business in Europe, bringing external experience of trading, origination and deal structuring from roles in BG, Enron, TXU, and BHP Billiton. She subsequently held roles in Lubricants, Trading & Supply and Shell Chemicals before joining Global Commercial in 2019 as President of Shell Aviation, launching the sustainable fuels offering and positioning Shell as a clear sectoral leader in decarbonisation. Following that, Anna became Senior Vice President for Acquisition, Divestments and New Business Development in Shell’s Downstream business, leading the restructure of the Downstream portfolio. And, most recently, was Executive Vice President of Shell Emerging Energy Solutions, where she helped bring together Shell’s Hydrogen, Carbon Capture and Storage, Nature-Based Solutions and Ventures businesses. Anna is a versatile, dynamic leader with an international perspective and world-leading experience in the energy sector. She thrives in meaningful roles where she can drive change by developing high-performing teams. Anna is an independent non-executive director on the Rolls-Royce SMR Board. She also serves on the board of Raízen, and as Shell's representative on the CEO Board of the Hydrogen Council. Anna lives in London with her husband and two children.
Low-carbon solutions offer companies the opportunity to significantly reduce emissions, accelerate their net-zero journeys, and build strategic roadmaps for the decarbonisation of their businesses and operations. From carbon capture and low carbon fuels to hydrogen and renewables, the industry can seize new opportunities for investment and portfolio diversification. Ultimately, this can lead to the development of new business and operating models that support the creation of these capabilities.
Regardless of the progress made in their journey, there is the opportunity for leader to explore new go-to-market strategies and business models through innovative partnerships and venturing. Additionally, increasing organisational flexibility to accommodate new low-carbon businesses is essential.

According to the World Economic Forum, heavy industry accounts for one-third of global energy use and one-quarter of global GHG emissions. Steel, cement and chemicals are the three highest emitters and amongst the most difficult to decarbonise, due to both technical and economic factors. Close collaboration among producers, technology providers and users can open new decarbonisation solutions and potentially enable cost savings that are challenging to achieve. Favourable government policies also have a role to play in unlocking viable path to decarbonisation solutions.
In this Action Session, we will examine what can be done to decarbonise heavy emitting sectors including collaboration opportunities and favourable industry policies.
