Alasdair Cowie, Director at MCS Group,  is a professional in the marine, subsea and underwater industry with over 40 years of experience. Following a Ministry of Defence apprenticeship in the 1980’s he has worked extensively across the world in the various capacities for organisations including Subsea Offshore (Subsea 7), Saipem and Kvaerner both onshore and offshore. Since the mid 2000’s he has been involved in a number of start-up businesses as co-founder holding senior executive positions in these marine and subsea business. Following the merging of his company Cortez Subsea into the MCS Group in 2018 he has held a senior executive position in the group driving business growth.

Offshore & wind perspective on managing subsea power systems

Seabed cables are a critical part of the national infrastructure for power and communications as well as playing a key role in offshore electrification goals. System and product reliability is a major focus, as is the inspection and protection of this critical underwater infrastructure. Further, the energy transition is driving the need for alternative energy sources resulting in novel technologies being brought to the market. The seabed and underwater space provides challenges, opportunities and a breeding ground for innovation.
