India’s energy strides to self-reliance: From barrels to biofuels, harnessing a diverse energy mix

As a central pillar of Prime minister Modi’s Viksit Bharat 2047 national objective to become a fully developed global economy, India has taken robust, far-reaching strategic and policy measures towards achieving energy independence. Balanced with expansive energy security and multi-lateral trade objectives, India has also committed to becoming a low-carbon society, embarking on an ambitious programme of scaling clean energies and becoming a future climate technology superpower.

In this Energy Talk, Secretary Pankaj Jain of India’s Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, will discuss how inclusive and realistic energy transformation must incorporate a responsible future role for hydrocarbons, as clean energy solutions mature and scale. From expanding LNG within the energy mix and promoting domestic deepwater E&P, to developing biofuels and green hydrogen ecosystems and pioneering advanced nuclear SMRs, India’s fast evolving energy journey offers significant opportunities, as well as key lessons for the Global South.
