Joel has been TotalEnergies’ Special Advisor to the International Energy Agency (IEA) since September 2019. He works with the teams in the Energy Markets and Security Directorate. Previously, as Group Chief Energy Economist at TotalEnergies, Joel coordinated the cross-branch dialogue within the company on the global macroeconomic and energy outlooks as well as the economic assumptions for the long-term plan. Until October 2017, he was VP for Market Analysis in the Trading & Shipping Division of TotalEnergies (TOTSA), managing a team providing analysis and technical support for oil trading activity. The work was also used by the planning, the upstream and the downstream divisions of the company. Joel has worked in the oil industry since joining Elf Trading in September 1992 and was appointed to the Trading & Shipping Management Committee in 2009. He holds a B.Eng from McMaster University (Ontario, Canada) and a MS in Energy Economics from Université de Grenoble (France). Following his studies, he worked on radio-isotope production in Canada and subsequently, in France, on long-term energy studies for EDF, for DRI and for the International Energy Agency.
