A volatile macroeconomic climate and geopolitical disruptions in 2024 and 2025 have influenced energy investment and operations, bringing energy security into sharper focus. Updated environmental regulations and the prioritisation of clean energy innovation are accelerating investment in renewable sources. At the same time, economic instability, protectionism, and trade tensions pose various challenges. As organisations pivot to localised supply chains, for instance, there is potential for costs to increase and global trade to become more complicated. Financiers and investors, as well as policymakers and energy leaders, will need to balance short-term caution with long-term sustainability goals to ensure a resilient, low-carbon, high-growth future. Foreign policy decisions and collaboration between nations will play a crucial role in the flow of capital as our industry continues to innovate by embracing diversified energy sources.
