Dr. Sebastian Stießel is Senior Business Development Manager at Fraunhofer UMSICHT in Oberhausen. He is responsible for the transfer of developments from applied research to industry, especially in the areas of hydrogen, power-to-X and carbon capture and utilization (CCUS). In addition, he is head of the working group “Cross-Industrial Production Systems”, which focuses on the systemic assessment, modeling and simulation of complex energy and industrial processes. Since the beginning of 2021, he has also been the managing director of the Excellence Cluster Industrial Innovations in North Rhine Westphalia SPIN (Spitzencluster Industrielle Innovationen).
Dr. Stießel studied industrial engineering with a specialization in energy and process engineering at the University of Duisburg-Essen and during this time he worked for various industrial companies including ThyssenKrupp, Babcock and Bilfinger. After his studies, he received his doctorate (Dr.-Ing.) from the Ruhr University Bochum at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in cooperation with Fraunhofer UMSICHT on the topic of "Multicriteria evaluation of cross-industrial systems". As a research associate, he worked on the projects Carbon2Chem®, Power-to-X Bad Langensalza and enerPort, among others. As head of the SPIN office, he is responsible for the strategic development of the Cluster, the scientific orientation as well as the development and initiation of new projects on the topics of hydrogen, Power-to-X, CCU and digitalization as well as artificial intelligence.
