Safeguarding energy security with AI

In a global environment where disruptions such as severe weather events, geopolitical conflicts and trade disputes pose significant threats to national and regional energy security, heavily reactive approaches have repeatedly proven inadequate. Artificial intelligence (AI) can help exporting nations respond more swiftly to outages, ensuring energy security for importing nations through effective collaboration and coordination. The key challenge is, are energy companies ready to substantially enhance preparedness, resilience and responsiveness, and what AI-powered strategies do they have in place to do so? By leveraging real-time data, identifying early indicators of potential disruptions and conducting comprehensive, AI-driven scenario analyses, energy stakeholders can proactively redirect energy flows, optimise logistics and supply chains, and balance energy resources strategically. As an industry, we must seize this opportunity to improve energy security and minimise disruption through intelligent anticipation and coordinated responses.
