ADIPEC Senior Vice President Thomas Loffler details how the leading global energy platform is responding to major sector shifts by enabling organisations to leverage intelligent strategies and technologies for maximum impact and long-term energy transformation. ADIPEC 2025 will take place on 3-6 November in Abu Dhabi, UAE, under the theme of ‘Energy. Intelligence. Impact.’
Q1. Energy has been experiencing a lot of movement, pressure, and shifts this year. How is this reflected in the agenda for ADIPEC 2025?
The energy sector is entering a defining decade and meeting this moment requires securing energy while seizing opportunities that energy unlocks. In response to this, ADIPEC 2025 will serve to address the dual imperative of building resilience in today’s systems while simultaneously scaling intelligent solutions to enable a system-wide transformation to accelerate inclusive global progress. We recognise that achieving impactful energy resilience will require embracing all viable energy sources, technologies and innovations, and building sustainable systems that deliver energy to more people, more affordably, and with lower carbon intensity.
All of this is reflected in the ADIPEC 2025 programme, which will include an expanded focus on artificial intelligence (AI), and finance and investment, as well as the addition of new segments like chemicals, LNG, natural gas, emerging economies and leadership. Set to be our biggest edition ever, ADIPEC 2025 will be where dialogue becomes delivery, where solutions are showcased, decisions are made, and collaborations are catalysed to unlock long-term value.
Q2. In the year since ADIPEC 2024 launched its AI Zone, artificial intelligence (AI) has gone from a nice-to-have to a need-to-have in the energy sector. How is ADIPEC 2025 deepening its exploration of the AI-energy nexus this year?
Energy and AI are not just shaping what’s next – they are speeding it up. Tapping into the power of this convergence is essential for building a future that’s more secure, inclusive and sustainable. That is why ADIPEC is bringing together the brightest minds in energy and tech through the AI Zone, alongside our new conference programme on Digitalisation & AI.
This year, the AI Zone is designed around five core experiential areas that illustrate how AI is reshaping energy, infrastructure, people and systems. Focused on the nexus between energy and AI, the zone showcases the most impactful AI innovations and applications transforming energy and our world.
This is complemented by the Digitalisation & AI conference programme, which will provide a platform for energy and technology leaders to discuss and explore how digital and intelligent technologies can enhance resilience, security and performance.
Q3. The ADIPEC Strategic Conference programme is perhaps the event’s most widely anticipated feature. What topics, sectors, and issues have you added to the agenda this year in response to the needs of the energy transition?
The ADIPEC Strategic Conference this year takes on some very timely topics being faced by the global energy sector, like the impact of tariffs on trade flows and supply chains, plus how energy diversity can support growing energy demand.
Reflecting this, we are introducing five new programmes in our Strategic Conference: Natural Gas & LNG; Digitalisation & AI; Downstream & Chemicals; Emerging Economies; and Diversity, Leadership & Development. These additions reflect the central role of specific parts of the energy value chain – like gas, LNG, downstream, chemicals, AI and digitalisation – which are critical to powering economies and supporting energy security. The new Emerging Economies programme will explore critical challenges and opportunities shaping energy, trade and industrial development across high-growth markets. Meanwhile, the Diversity, Leadership & Development focus will explore the challenges to developing a skilful and diverse workforce to deliver the energy system of tomorrow.
These five new priority programmes, along with five others from last year – Global Strategy, Hydrogen, Finance & Investment, Decarbonisation, and Maritime & Logistics – will explore the most significant questions facing global industry and the pragmatic pathways to drive system-wide transformation and unlock long-term value.
Some of the early confirmed speakers for ADIPEC’s Strategic Conference programme include: Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Eni; Wael Sawan, CEO of Shell; Murray Auchincloss, CEO of bp; Dr. Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency; Linda Cook, CEO of Harbour Energy; Stefan Doboczky, CEO of Borealis; and Miguel Ángel López Borrego, CEO of thyssenkrupp. These are just the beginning of what will be an exciting speaker lineup spanning energy, finance, technology and government.
Q4. What exciting, critical, and timely things can ADIPEC’s attendees expect to see on its exhibition floor?
More than 2,250 organisations from across the global energy ecosystem will come together across the ADIPEC Exhibition to share proven, scalable solutions that have real-world impact. Spanning 17 halls and featuring 54 NOCs, IOCs, NECs and IECs alongside 30 dedicated country pavilions and four specialised industry areas, the exhibition showcases how interconnected energy systems can unlock transformative opportunities by embracing all viable energy sources and technologies.
A key part of this will be our specialised industry areas – the AI Zone, Digitalisation Zone, Maritime & Logistics Zone, and an expanded Decarbonisation Zone – which have been designed to drive innovation, collaboration and investment across sectors and geographies. The zones do this by giving the organisations they feature a platform to showcase their products and leadership, to attract customers, partners, investors, and more.
