Akram attended King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia and graduated in Systems Engineering (1991) and Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (2002). He started his career as a process control/commissioning and testing Engineer for Saudi Aramco Oil & Gas projects under Bechtel/CCC. In 1993 he joined Bently Nevada Corp USA (Acquired by GE) in engineering and then commercial operations. During his work at Bently Nevada he was promoted to a number of management positions until announced in 2002 as Regional General Manager for Africa, India and Middle East for GE Measurement and Controls business under GE Energy leading over 300 employees.
In 2007 Akram was promoted to President and CEO for all of General Electric Corporate leading the Gulf region. His work involved heading GE Corporate team with $5B in revenue and over 1200+ professionals. In 2010 Akram founded Cayan Holdings alongside prominent investors in the region while continuing as Senior Advisor to General Electric. Cayan Holdings is an active investment and development firm with over $350M invested to date across the Middle East, Europe and Africa in renewable energy, manufacturing and Oil & Gas services and supply sectors.
Akram worked since 2015 as Managing Director of Jazan Gas Company ($2B investment by Air Products and Qudra Energy in industrial gases) and member of the board of Gas Integrated Company, CEO of Qudra Energy. His work in board memberships and advisory included Air Products US (2012), King Abdullah City of Atomic and Renewable Energy (2013), Beatona Waste Management Co (2015), Punj Lloyd SA (2014), Mueller Middle East (2019), etc.
