Muhammad Akram Karimi (PhD) – received his MS and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia in 2015 and 2019 respectively. He completed his BS degree in electrical engineering from University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Pakistan in 2013 by securing 2 gold medals. His research work has won best student paper award in IEEE IMS 2016, best thesis award (3MT) in IEEE IMS 2019 and IEEE Sensors Council Technical Achievement Award (Early Career). His research was shortlisted as finalist for the “Breakthrough Research of the year award” at ADIPEC 2019 as well as at ADIPEC 2022. He has been a finalist for Young technical professional of the year awards at ADIPEC 2020 as well as ADIPEC 2022. He is an author of more than 20 international conference and journal publications and an inventor of 10+ patents. His invention on “printed multiphase meter” has been awarded King prize (Takreem), on behalf of the King of Saudi Arabia in 2020. He is actively collaborating with Saudi Aramco and its global research centres located in Houston, Aberdeen and Moscow. He has successfully deployed and tested his innovative designs of water-cut and multiphase flow meters in the oil fields of the Middle East. He is currently leading a start-up company as its Chief Technology Officer. His research interests include multiphase flow metering, water cut sensing and IoT enabled distributed sensing for oil industrial applications.
