Dr. Ban has been involved in the research of a wide range of energy and oil related issues at the OPEC Secretariat in Vienna, Austria, for more than 30 years. His areas of expertise include the development of medium- and long-term models, in particular the global energy model and the refining and trade model that serve as the basis for the OPEC Secretariat’s projections.
Dr. Ban has been one of the main contributors to OPEC’s annual flagship publication World Oil Outlook since its first public release in 2007. He holds a Doctorate in Mathematics from the Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia, where he also taught mathematical statistics before joining OPEC in 1991.
