Darren works for The Welding Institute (TWI Ltd) as the Welding Systems Team Manager and for Lancaster University as the Director of the Joining 4.0 Innovation Centre. Both roles focus on R&D of novel Digital Technologies for implementation into manufacturing industries.

Prior to working at TWI Ltd, Darren worked for Rolls-Royce where he played an integral part in setting up a brand new state-of-the-art production facility, the Advanced Blade Casting Facility (ABCF). At the ABCF he was the Was Area Process Owner, responsible for optimising and managing automated production lines, ensuring product integrity, training, continuous improvement, and leading engineering teams.

Darren has been an active volunteer for over 18 years and received national recognition from the following bodies:

  • 2019 National Diversity Awards – Positive Role Model

A prestigious award celebrating the achievements of grass –roots communities that tackle the issues in today’s society. Shortlisted (Final 8) out of 28,543 nominations nationally.

  • 2019 Paul Fletcher Award – The Institute of Engineering Technology

Awarded annually to an IET volunteer for outstanding achievement in contributing to the activities of the IET.

  • 2018 British Black Business Award (BBBA) Winner – Science Technology Engineering Maths: Rising Star

BBBA is a premium awards programme that recognises rewards and celebrates exceptional performance and outstanding achievements of black people in businesses operating in Great Britain. Out of 1000’s of applicants, I was shortlisted and awarded the winner for the 2018 Rising Star STEM category (under 35 years old) for demonstrating continuous excellence and achievement within engineering.

  • 2017 STEM Ambassador of the Year 2017.

Awarded from the prestigious Armourers & Brasiers, for the recognition of volunteering activities contributing to the promotion of Engineering.
