VP Strategy & Intelligence, Research & Development
Following a reorganization supporting Total’s ambition to become the “Responsible Energy Major”, Vincent Saubestre was transferred to Total’s Paris headquarters in September 2016 to spearhead the implementation of an R&D Strategy for the Total Group. This covers harmonizing, federating and setting a course for R&D Programs, Intellectual Property, Technology Intelligence and Competence Development for R&D.
Dr. Saubestre joined Total in 1990 and has held various, field, managerial and executive positions in Exploration and Production in seven countries around the world.
Vincent Saubestre started his career in R&D, developing structural models for offshore platforms in the North Sea. In 2000, he joined Total in Abu Dhabi as General Manager (Technical), and was involved with various transitions in the OPCOs (ADCO 1.4; GASCO-ATHEER; Upper Zakum; ADGAS; ADMA, NGSCO and the Petroleum Institute). After two decades in Operations and Business Development, he returned to R&D and structured Total’s Canadian R&D Center with mission to tackle the technical, environmental and societal challenges associated with the exploitation of the Oil Sands.
In 2013, Vincent was seconded to American Shale Oil, a startup developing subsurface technology to produce the massive oil shale resources located in Colorado-Utah-Wyoming.
Vincent is a graduate engineer of Ecole Polytechnique and Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Techniques Avancées (Paris) and holds an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California (@ Santa Barbara).
