Vice President Geoscience
John is currently the Vice President of Geoscience for Occidental Oil & Gas Corporation in Houston Texas. He is responsible for the technical assurance, support and execution of new bench appraisal in the Permian Basin as well as any international unconventional opportunities. His group is responsible for Subsurface Reservoir Characterization, Appraisal, Petrophysical Engineering & Rock Fluids, Basin Modeling, US Domestic Exploration and CO2 Sourcing teams focused on Oxy’s Permian EOR operations. He has global functional responsibility for Geology, Geophysics, Petrophysics and data management standards associated with those disciplines.
John began his career with Amoco Production Company working the Permian Basin, and continued his focus on the Permian with Wintershall O&G, Grace Oil, Apache Corporation and now Oxy. He has held numerous management and technical leadership positions throughout his career including in international assignments on Western Desert in Cairo, Egypt and Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin in Calgary, Canada.
John holds a Bachelor’s degree in geology from Syracuse University, and a Master’s degree in Geoscience from the State University of New York at Binghamton.
He has given numerous technical presentations on Permian unconventional resource play evaluation, technology application and production results to many societies including SPE, SPE Young Professionals, AADE, WTGS-SEPM, SIPES, Angelo State University as well as the Egyptian Oil Ministry and Khalda and Qarun JV’s in Cairo, Egypt. Recent presentations on Oxy’s “Inter-Disciplinary Work Flow Process to Achieve Profitable Results in Delaware Basin Resource Plays” were given to the AAPG-DPA Delaware Basin Play Forum in Midland, Tx. and to the SPE: Shale Development Optimization Workshop in Austin, Tx
