Edward Newitt’s practice is dispute resolution orientated, split between the maritime and insurance industries and general commercial problem solving. Considered one of the world’s top maritime lawyers, he has multi-jurisdictional experience in collision, salvage and casualty investigations, disputes from contracts of carriage and marine insurance coverage issues. He is also an experienced casualty investigator and crisis manager, dealing with marine and energy incidents, including seafarer criminalisation and piracy issues.
In the Middle East, Edward has been involved in a broad range of commercial disputes across the GCC, including shareholder/joint venture and agency disputes, criminal, defamation and fraud. He is regularly instructed in insurance disputes arising from C.A.R., fire and other liability policies, and has extensive experience dealing with police and government institutions in the context of major incidents resulting in loss of life and third party damage. His regional experience involves court proceedings across GCC jurisdictions, as well as disputes before regional and international arbitration centres.
Edward is also a member of the Topics & Agenda Committee for the International Congress for Maritime Arbitrators (ICMA XX) which will take place in September 2017.
