Dr. Sunil Kokal is a Principal Scientist at Saudi Aramco’s EXPEC Advanced Research Center, based in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. He has four decades of professional engineering and research experience in sustainability and EOR. He is the principal architect of EOR projects in Saudi Arabia, with a focus on reducing emissions and increasing oil recovery. He has spearheaded the implementation of the first CCUS and CO2-EOR demonstration project that has received many firsts-in-the-world, including 10 international awards. He is also part of a research initiative on energy sustainability and Circular Carbon Economy, a framework for reducing CO2 emissions from oil and gas. He epitomizes excellence in engineering and has been the recipient of numerous engineering awards including the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ prestigious Improved/EOR Pioneer award, and presented with the society’s highest honor: Honorary Member. He is a Fellow of the Energy Institute and has been shortlisted for two lifetime achievement awards.
